A list of matches conducted at the Ben Avery Range. NW corner of I-17 & Carefree Highway at the Northern edge of Phoenix, AZ. MAP For most matches, we should enter at the 1000 yd line. From the intersection, head west about 1/2 mile past the main Ben Avery entrance to "Long Shot Drive".

Palma

This match is all prone slow fire:

Most shooters use a "Palma" Rifle, a .308 Caliber Single shot bolt action.

Iron sights only.

Regional Match Course

This match is 80 shots, + 8 sighters.

All iron sights, most shooters use a service rifle or match rifle.

Maricopa,

300, 500, 600, 800, 1000 yards,  All slow fire prone with 2 shooters pair firing.
Ten rounds fired for record, there are 2 convertable sighters, per distance.
 

4 Gun 1000 yd. I think we're not shooting this match this year

The 4-gun 1000 yard match requires 2 sighters and 20 shots for record  with:

National Long Range Course I think we're not shooting this match this year

 Very similar to the match described above and on my National Match Page This match is 60 shots, + 10 sighters?.

All iron sights?, Must be fired with the same rifle, categories include: Long Range Small Bore I think we're not shooting this match this year

 Prone Slow fire match consisting of 15 shots for record at:

Rifles weighing over 8lbs will be considered target rifles and will fire this match with metallic sights.

Rifles weighing 8lbs or less will be considered sporting rifles and may fire this match with metallic or scope sights.

A 200 yds 20 shot any sight match will also be fired.

This match is neither a duplication nor a replication of any other match and is intended to encourage participation of new shooters with limited equipment while providing new challenges to old shooters.

IT Team practice:

The Arizona State Rifle team will practice on the afternoons after Palma and alternate weekends in the summer in preparation for Camp Perry. This will be 600 yd and Infantry Trophy "Rattle Battle".
 

300 meter reduced to 300 yards

This is fun match, 60 shots prone on the international target! (300m reduced to 300yd) Centerfire rifle, ISSF or NRA rules on clothing equipment etc.


3 times 20shot 600yds

Just 3 prone strings at 600yds.

Springfield Match
a 50 shot NMC using bolt action military rifles
